Boston Post Cane tradition
The Boston Post Cane tradition was established in 1909 by the Boston Post newspaper in hopes of increasing readership. Over 700 canes were given to New England towns to be presented as an honor to each town’s oldest citizen. The original cane of ebony and gold is displayed at the Town Office. A replica is given to Tremont’s eldest.
